The Nevada Rush Competitive Division is for players who want to advance their soccer development. With instruction from an experienced, professional coaching staff, players receive a more intensive, goal-focused, competitive training environment. Competitive teams take part in regular sessions that build technical skills and deepen tactical understanding of the Rush style of play.
When can I join?
Players may join the Nevada Rush Competitive Division at any time. If you are currently rostered with another club, you must obtain a written release from that club or wait until the next tryouts before transferring.
Players who are not registered with another club may be invited to train with a Nevada Rush squad in their age group so coaches can determine the most appropriate developmental placement.
Player Placement Process
Player Evaluation
Each year—typically in late May and early June—clubs run annual tryouts to place players on teams according to skill and fit. Because coaches evaluate many players in a short window, the tryout process can be demanding: some players may be missed, unable to attend, or too nervous to show their best. For these reasons, tryouts are only one part of how we assess players.
During evaluations, coaches review technical ability, tactical awareness, physical condition, and psychological readiness. Recognizing the limits of a single tryout session, Head Coaches and the Director of Coaching continuously observe players throughout the season at training and in matches. Ongoing monitoring gives a fuller, more accurate picture of each player’s strengths and needs.
Evaluations also consider factors such as attendance, attitude, consistency, and how a player fits within team chemistry. Nevada Rush conducts formal evaluations in December and April, followed by meetings to review progress and plan individualized development steps.
Player Movement
At times during the year, a player may be moved to a different team within Nevada Rush to ensure they are competing at the appropriate level and continuing to be challenged. Any proposed transfer must be discussed between the player’s Head Coach and the Director of Coaching (DOC) and receive DOC approval. Player development, safety, and well-being guide every placement decision.

Expectations for selected players
- Full commitment to the program, including consistent attendance at training, timely communication, and adherence to team standards.
- High standards of professionalism on and off the field (respect for coaches and teammates, academic responsibility, and positive sportsmanship).
- Openness to feedback and a growth mindset; players should be prepared to be pushed physically, mentally, and competitively.
Training and program structure
- Regular training: three Academy sessions per week focused on technical, tactical, and team concepts.
- College recruiting support: one to two college-focused sessions each month to update recruiting profiles, review academic eligibility requirements, and connect with college coaches. These sessions include instruction on coach outreach, highlight creation, and NCAA/NAIA/juco registration where applicable.
- Video analysis: one to two film sessions each month to review and analyze games and individual performance, identify learning goals, and create action plans for improvement.
- Strength & conditioning and injury-prevention work are integrated or provided through partner coaches to support long-term athletic development.
- Rosters remain flexible: movement between teams is based on performance, training commitment, and developmental needs.
Competition and league play
- The Academy team competes in the top division of the SWPL, facing strong opponents including former professional and collegiate players. This level is intended to prepare players for college-level competition.
- If enough players are available, a second Academy team will be placed in the second division to provide appropriate playing time and competitive balance.
- Coaches will manage playing opportunities with a focus on development and fair competition across the Academy.
What this means for players and families
- Recognition: Selection signals the club’s belief that a player has potential to compete at the highest levels within Nevada Rush.
- Commitment: Families should plan for increased time, travel, and possible additional costs associated with showcases, recruiting activities, and extra training.
- Support: The Academy provides technical coaching, recruiting guidance, video feedback, and strength/conditioning resources to help players progress toward college and elite opportunities.
- Development plan: Each Academy player will receive individualized feedback and a development plan with clear, measurable goals and checkpoints to track progress.
